Left Out of HRC Party in SF
I'm not a huge fan of the Human Rights Campaign. I think they soak up a percentage of gay rights dollars that is far larger than their utility. And they endorse Republicans who happen to vote with us on a few issues, but that vote for virulently anti-gay leadership in the House and Senate. (I'm looking at you Mary Bono Mack.) But what has many LGBT activists mad at HRC these days is their support for a version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act that does not include protection for transge

A Social Conservative Misrepresents Gay Conservatives
A Social Conservative Misrepresents Gay Conservatives July 24th, 2008 So regularly do gay liberals (not just gay people, others on the left as well) misrepresent gay conservatives that I often forget how social conservatives also engage in the same sort of deception. While it seems those on the left misrepresent this blog (and its bloggers) on a regular basis, it’s been a while since a social conservative has so misunderstood us (or at least since a reader has drawn their criticism to my att

BlogHer08 Wrap Up
Yes, I could have gone with a photo from the conference. But Why? When will you ever see a picture like this again? Only if you visit the Castro in San Francisco. And that wasn’t the only weird thing LeLo and I saw in San Francisco, and I’m not talking about the queers. We saw people dressed like bunnies and plastic butt sex toys, Bears wearing Tiaras and that was nothing compared to the BlogHer08 conference. You think gay boys have drama? Oh, they got nothing on the drama that 1,000 women

While it seems those on the left misrepresent this blog (and its bloggers) on a regular basis, it’s been a while since a social conservative has so misunderstood us (or at least since a reader has drawn their criticism to my attention). You Don't Count!
I heard about this yesterday, and could hardly believe it. Basically, as far as the U.S. Census is concerned, gay couples who are married don't exist. Read more... The Census Bureau says the federal Defense of Marriage Act bars the agency from recognizing gay marriages in the nation's 10-year count, even though the marriages are legal in Massachusetts and California. The agency's director, Steven Murdock, said in an interview Thursday that the 1996 federal law "has that effect, in terms of be

Archbishop to Homosexual Bishop Robinson - 'Resign'
The Archbishop of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan today declared that Gene Robinson, the openly gay Bishop of New Hampshire, "should resign for the sake of the church." In a press conference at the decennial Lambeth Conference, the Most Rev. Dr. Daniel Deng Bul said that homosexual ordination "is not what is found in the Bible" and that it is "not the norm of the Anglican world." Archbishop Bul, who serves as Bishop of Juba as well as primate of the church in Sudan, represents some of the mo

Bigots for Kratovil
Kratovil for Congress shill “Bud the Blogger” doesn’t like Andy Harris’ pollster. Bud claims he’s gay. I say, “So What?”. Frankie’s boy says that pollster Arthur Finkelstein “married” his long-time partner. Again, “So What?”. Bud claims that this somehow proves that Maryland Sen. Andy Harris is not a conservative. How? When has Harris ever voted to support “gay rights”? He’s a lot farther to the right on that issue than I am; and no one has ever called me a liberal. The bottom line - Kratov

Televangelist Christian Leadership
There are some good well meaning souls out there preaching the word of God as they see it and none of them are on TV. But it seems like when a high percentage of preachers hit the big time it becomes very difficult to remain on the path. I consider most televangelists as total frauds and more of a danger than a help especially when they start advocating assassination and military strikes, although sex scandals seem to be a prominent theme along with some of our conservative elected officials.

No One Wants “Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell”
The “Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell” policy was a 1993 compromise between those who favored an all-out ban on gay service persons and those who favored a fully inclusive Military. It wasn’t much liked by either side at the time and is still not popular with either gays or anti-gays. The anti-gay most visible on this issue is Elaine Donnelly, one of the two anti-gays scheduled to speak today in Congressional Hearings on the issue. Donnelly has long been opposed to the Don’t Ask - Don’t Tell compromise

Open Letter to Religious Leaders on Marriage Equality
I ran across the following at John Shuck's blog -- Shuck and Jive. It's an open letter that deals directly with the issue of marriage equality -- and more specifically of including gays and lesbians in the bonds of marriage. It was written and posted by the Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice, and Healing. I have read the I read through the letter and found it compelling. It's a call to support the extension of civil marriage to gays and lesbians while at the same time recognizing t

What's Wrong with this Picture?
Preface: It's a rant of sorts, and it could be slightly off-base. It should in no way be about Outfest, who were more than generous. It really was coming home after the screening and seeing the stories about Lawrence King in Newsweek. Thus, it's only an opinion. The problem with happiness is that you never want it to end—and it always does. Tonight, the final screening of Outfest presented the purely delightful, "Tru Love", a feel-good, happy-ending film that depicts a series of teenagers in

Homosexual Hermeneutics (Part 9): The Moral-Social Controversies
Other arguments for gay acceptance come from the famed (or infamous) Kinsey Study in 1948. Kinsey concluded that at least ten percent of the American population (or approximately 25 million people) is gay. If this were true, most homosexuals would argue that something regularly practiced by so many people could not be morally wrong. But the Kinsey report was anything but objective and scientific. Joseph Gudel designates four reasons as to the skewed conclusions of the Kinsey report. First, 25%

The recent Obama 20 Issues Quiz led to several messages asking me to clarify Obama's position on same-sex Marriage. Several expressed surprise that I believed Obama was in favor of same-sex marriage. He is. During the Primary Obama's position had always been that he was in favor of "Civil Unions" but opposed "Marriage" between same sex couples. Obama changed that position in a letter reported on July 1, 2008 . By opposing California Prop 8, the Defense of Marriage Act, Obama is supporting same
